What was your favorite military assignment/duty station and why? Spangdahlem and Bitburg Germany were among my favorite places to be deployed. The German people are very friendly and cordial and enjoy having us in their country. I also enjoyed our wartime deployments. From after 9/11, we were deployed as a Combat Construction Unit, many times, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, and Qatar. These deployments gave me a chance to reflect on who we were helping in the regions, and why democracy was needed to sustain these nations into the future. Although a few difficulties were always on the horizon of each day, I still was very serious in my mission and dedicated to sustain our ideology in helping a nation.

Chip Daniel Koons, Air Force, MSgt (ret), continues his service by volunteering time and talent working with Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) to complete military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Pennsylvania and other local cemeteries. This time and dedication makes him feel accomplished and worthwhile in life after serving in the military. Chip enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. The reward for the sacrifice of all those years of missing events. He also enjoys time on his motorcycle, serving with Patriot Guard Riders, and hiking in the wilderness. Chip currently works for Penn State Hershey.
