Memorable moment in your Penn State career: There are many but 8 Straight Softball Conference Championships and a National Championship! Pretty special. Great accomplishments and memories for a lifetime coaching great young ladies and we are still going strong!

Where/when did you serve: Served in the Seabees, deployed to Port Hueneme California, Guam, Puerto Rico, Diego Garcia, Rota Spain, Anchorage, Alaska, Singapore, and Okinawa, Japan. Boxed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Subic Bay, Phillipines and in San Diego, California and at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.

Awards: 1978 While in Subic Bay, Phillipines, won the Light Heavyweight Championship in boxing. Was Sailor of the Year while stationed at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Good Conduct Awards and Seabee of the Month twice while stationed with USMCB United States Mobile Construction Battalion.

What was your favorite military assignment/duty station and why? Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. I was the admiral’s secretary and basically drove him wherever he needed to go in his US Navy Jeep. Had a great job there for six years, I was living home at the time and for what it’s worth a carton of cigarettes at that time (79’-85’) was $4.75 at the commissary store, incredible.

Mark Caserta, Navy, had a very successful career in the Navy. He also participated in several athletic opportunities while serving. When he was stationed in Subic Bay, Phillipines, he won the Light Heavyweight Championship in boxing. The boxing match which was held on the USS Constellation. Mark also was the quarterback for the Apra Harbor Bulldogs football team while stationed in Guam, USA. This was a semi pro league with full equipment. He is currently the head softball coach at Penn State Brandywine. His time taught him about commitment, dedication, leadership, responsibility, maturity, all those vital intangibles he tries to instill into his softball players at Penn State Brandywine. Mark is proud that his players all graduate, mostly all of them with honors and are all doing great in the working world now.
